The Atjeh Museum at Koeta Radja was the provincial museum founded in the pavilion which Atjeh had built for the colonial exhibition at Semarang (1914), re-erected in the Atjehnese capital after the exhibition and opened by Governor H. N. A. Swart in the second half of 1915.
From Semarang to Koeta Radja
The annual-market exhibitions held in Atjeh — the first under Governor G. C. E. van Daalen (April 1908), the second in 1911, which succeeded so well that it was decided to hold such an exhibition once every three years — were interrupted before 1914 because of the colonial exhibition to be held that year at Semarang, and in 1917 the world war was still in full course. The invitation to participate in the Semarang exhibition was followed: the province appeared with a thoroughly well-kept exposition in a separate pavilion, which drew much attention. “Dit paviljoen in Atjeh teruggebracht, werd te Koeta-Radja weer opgericht tot een Atjehmuseum, dat in de tweede helft van 1915 door den gouverneur werd geopend” — “This pavilion, brought back to Atjeh, was re-erected at Koeta Radja as an Atjeh museum, which was opened by the Governor in the second half of 1915”. The book closes its photo sequence with a plate of the “Atjeh-museum te Koeta-Radja” (together with the plate “Papier-a of Poelo Weh”).
