Keumala was historically the region where Sultansmacht (Sultan’s authority) was most honored. The court sought and found refuge in Keumala twice when forced to flee the Dalem: in 1878 and in 1898. From here resistance was long sustained and for years it was the breeding ground of fanaticism and kafir-haat (hatred of unbelievers).
