The Wadoek was the dam or reservoir of an Atjehnese landschap, by which the water of a river was collected for the irrigation of the sawahs. The wadoek is the principal piece of irrigation-infrastructure of the Atjehnese rice-cultivation. In Peureula a small irrigation-work has recently been undertaken, of which one serves to improve a wadoek laid out in 1906 — that is, then was begun with a dyke. Now 250 hectares can be irrigated. In Peusangan about a third of the soil is irrigable — that is, from the swamp — and for that there are a few wadoeks.
