XX Moekims was a traditional Acehnese administrative region and federation of twenty mukims in the northern coastal and valley territory of the Aceh Sultanate, modern Aceh Province, Indonesia.
Leadership and Diplomacy in 1874
The district was headed by prominent indigenous rulers including Teuku Nya Abas and Teuku Nek Purba. Following the Capture of the Aceh Kraton on 24 January 1874, as recorded in Atjeh gedurende de tweede expeditie en later (1876), Teuku Nya Abas and Teuku Nek Purba opened diplomatic communication with Commander-in-Chief General J. van Swieten, offering their submission to the Dutch East Indies Government.
These overtures, facilitated by Teuku Nek of Meuraxa, provided the documentary foundation for the General van Swieten War Telegrams of late January 1874, which predicted general pacification across northern Sumatra.
