Ulee Lheue is the primary seaport of Banda Aceh, situated on the Malacca Strait.
Commercial and Military History
Ulee Lheue served as the historic naval gateway to the Sultanate of Aceh where foreign merchant ships loaded pepper cargo. Following the capture of the capital in 1874, Dutch authorities constructed a military road and the first regional steam tramway connecting Ulee Lheue directly to Kota Raja in November 1876.
