Penditi was a place close by Kota Radja in Groot-Atjeh, known from the history of the Aceh War. It lay on the route of generaal Pel’s victorious campaign of December 1875 – February 1876 through the XXV Moekims, for in his day order of 8 February 1876 Pel said to his soldiers: “Den 7en dezer zijt ge met mij in triomf onze hoofdversterking weder binnengerukt over Longbatta en Penditi” (“On the 7th of this month you re-entered our chief fortification with me in triumph over Longbatta and Penditi”). At the closing of the concentrated line in February 1885 the watch at Penditi, close by Kota Radja, was surprised in the middle of 25 February 1885 “in the middle of the day” by apparently friendly Atjehers: the Dutch had nine men wounded (three mortally), and the enemy carried off two rifles — one of the first proofs that inside the new position there would be no safety either (see Guerilla raids inside the concentration line (1885)).
