Pekkan was a traditional Acehnese marketplace settlement and commercial gathering point located in the Aceh River valley near Kraton of Aceh, in modern Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
Economic and Military Role
Serving as a local distribution center for agricultural produce from the IV Moekims and VI Moekims (Sawah Cultivation and Supply in Aceh), Pekkan was fortified by Acehnese forces following the Dutch invasion of 1873.
During the Second Aceh Expedition and General Pel’s Campaign in Aceh, Dutch columns occupied Pekkan to control civilian grain trading and secure supply lines for the Intendance and Supply Service in Aceh.
