Panteh-Perak was a Dutch post in Groot-Atjeh where the military hospital stood to which, during August–September 1879, the sick of the Lamtoba column were evacuated by sea from Lampanas and Oleh-leh, as recorded in W. Cool and G. B. Hooijer’s Eene schoone bladzijde uit Atjeh’s geschiedenis (1889).

The evacuations of 1879

By 10 August 1879, five per cent of the rank and file of the column at Lamtoba had already been sent down to Lampanas, and thence, by the steamship Graaf van Bijland, evacuated to the hospital at Panteh-Perak. The stream continued through the quarantine month: in the final reckoning of the campaign 346 men stood evacuated, of whom 119 European and 62 native soldiers, 54 coolies and 109 convict labourers, besides 39 dead. From the last division, landed at Oleh-leh on 3 September, several men remained behind sick at Panteh-Perak when the artillery marched on to the posts of Toengkoep and Lambaroe.

Account from Verstege’s Een beroep op het Nederlandsche volk (1886)

Verstege adds: in the night of 5-6 June 1885 the sentry behind the Dutch kampement (encampment) at Panteh Perak, in the immediate neighbourhood of Kota Radja, was attacked, severely wounded and robbed of his rifle (see Guerilla raids inside the concentration line (1885)).
