Kaijoe Atoa (historically Kayu Ato) was a fortified military redoubt and defensive outpost established by the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army in the coastal lowlands near Kotta Radja in the Aceh Sultanate, modern Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
Role in General Pel’s Perimeter
Constructed during the occupation of 1874 and 1875, Kaijoe Atoa formed an integral link in the chain of defensive blockhouses guarding the western approaches to Kraton of Aceh against guerrilla incursions from the IV Moekims and VI Moekims.
During General Pel’s Campaign in Aceh in December 1875, troops garrisoned at Fort Kaijoe Atoa provided flank security for columns marching toward Pekan Badak and the Blankala Pass.
