The Glé Aron was the mountain range rising behind the lagoon on the far bank of the kali at Kroeng Raba on the west coast of Groot-Atjeh, described by P. H. R. Beuming in the sketch Een vreeselijke ontmoeting in Schetsen uit den strijd op Groot-Atjeh.
Beyond the wilderness of bamboo, lianas and thorny aloes on the far bank stretched a broad lagoon of standing water, en meer op den achtergrond verheft zich het majestueuse Glé Aron-gebergte — and further in the background rises the majestic Glé Aron range. The landscape, Beuming writes, offered a splendid panorama: on the mountain slopes were extensive primeval forests, and the slope fell away slowly towards the sea, leaving only a narrow coastal strip between the Glé Loeda pass and the Kroeng Raba.
Onbeschrijfelijk is de indruk, welke dit natuurtafereel achterlaat. En toch… in de schaduw van dat vriendelijk groen, vond reeds menig braaf krijger zijn somber graf — indescribable is the impression this scene of nature leaves; and yet, in the shadow of that friendly green, many a brave soldier had already found his sombre grave.
