Albanië was the country for which the Prins von Wied requested Maréchaussée officers from the Netherlands Indies, an appeal to which the former Maréchaussée officer W. V. Rhemrev at once responded, though in the event only officers from the Netherlands were sent.
The Dutch mission
The 1930 Maréchaussée jubilee number records, in its portrait notice of Rhemrev: “Toen de Prins Von Wied destijds maréchaussée-officieren vroeg voor Albanië, stelde de heer Rhemrev zich direct beschikbaar. Er werden evenwel alleen officieren uit Holland aangewezen, die naar Albanië gingen onder commando van Kolonel Thomson, die later sneuvelde” — when the Prince von Wied at that time asked for maréchaussée officers for Albania, Mr. Rhemrev at once made himself available; only officers from Holland were, however, designated, who went to Albania under the command of Kolonel Thomson, who later fell.
Significance for Atjeh
The episode is recorded in the jubilee number as evidence of the reputation which the methods of the Korps Maréchaussée had acquired beyond the Netherlands Indies.
