Prins von Wied was the ruler of Albania who, at the period following 1905, requested Maréchaussée officers from the Netherlands Indies for service in that country — a request to which the former Maréchaussée officer W. V. Rhemrev at once responded.
The request for Maréchaussée officers
The 1930 Maréchaussée jubilee number records that “toen de Prins Von Wied destijds maréchaussée-officieren vroeg voor Albanië, stelde de heer Rhemrev zich direct beschikbaar” — when the Prince von Wied at that time asked for maréchaussée officers for Albania, Mr. Rhemrev at once made himself available.
Only officers from Holland were, however, designated. They went to Albania under the command of Kolonel Thomson, who later fell.
Significance
The episode is recorded in the jubilee number as an instance of the international reputation acquired by the Korps Maréchaussée as a model of counter-insurgency organisation.
