Pruys van der Hoeven (1881-1883 (approx., two-year tenure)) was a Governor of Atjeh (civiel bestuur); ex-Resident of Palembang mentioned in Jongejan’s Land en Volk van Atjeh Vroeger en Nu in connection with Aceh. First civilian Governor of Atjeh and Onderhoorigheden after the 1881 splitting of civiel- en militair bestuur. Established the first administrative division into three afdeelingen (Groot-Atjeh, Noord- en Oostkust, Westkust) and ten onderafdeelingen. Achieved important results in the onderhoorigheden but made errors in Groot-Atjeh by replacing the military with police too soon.
Significance
Pruys van der Hoeven appears in Jongejan’s account as one of the figures shaping the history of Aceh during the period covered by the book.
