J. W. de Veer was a Dutch plantation administrator who served as the administrator (administrateur) of the tea factory at Redelong in North Takengon, in the highlands of what was then part of the Atjeh residency. He was awarded a royal decoration by Royal Decision (Koninklijk Besluit) of 23 May 1950.
The Redelong tea enterprise
The tea factory at Redelong in the Takengon highlands was one of the plantation enterprises situated in the inland areas of the former Atjeh residency. The Takengon region, in the Gayo highlands of central Atjeh, had been developed during the colonial period for tea and other highland crops. De Veer’s position as administrator of this enterprise placed him within the plantation economy of the Atjeh interior, distinct from the better-known tobacco and rubber plantations of the East Coast.
