H. M. van der Wijck

H. M. van der Wijck was the Dutch minister van marine whose reform proposal was adopted in the Koninklijk Besluit van 5 Maart 1895. His plan reduced the number of marine captains by four and the number of non‑commissioned officers by eleven, and removed the stipulation that marines were exclusively assigned to shipboard guard duty.

Reform Impact

• 5 March 1895: Implementation of the decree led to a streamlined marine structure, with the corps now organised into three divisions based in Amsterdam, Willemsoord, and Rotterdam.
