H. C. Reuter was the oldest European planter in Temiang, active in the early rubber period of the Oostkust van Atjeh.
Activity in Temiang
Reuter owned the rubber estate Tandjong Semantoh, which he later transferred to the Japanese entity Borneo Rubber Compagnie. He was also owner of the young enterprise Rimba Sawang. According to Dr. R. Broersma, Reuter had recently died at the time of writing in 1923.
His career illustrates the turnover of estates in Temiang after the failure of tobacco, from Deli-Maatschappij and Arendsburg attempts to rubber and oil palm.
