Ellinghuyzen, Lieutenant ter zee was a Dutch naval officer who commanded a landing division from the frigate Maria Reygersbergen during the Dutch response to the 17 May 1817 uprising on Saparoea. His troops occupied the fort at Duurstede and held it with the support of ship‑borne artillery until relieved by the corvette Priss Frederik and the magistrate‑admiral Buyskes (page 92).
Role in the Saparoea Campaign
After the initial landing, Ellinghuyzen’s division secured the fort at Duurstede, using the firepower of the frigate to maintain their position against local resistance. The operation demonstrated the coordination between naval and land forces in the Dutch attempts to subdue the Aceh‑adjacent islands.
