Vrijwillig automobielcorps (Volunteer Motor Corps), referred to in the source as “Vauhee”, provided motorised transport personnel—primarily Javanese drivers—for Dutch military operations in the Dutch East Indies during World War II. In March 1942 the corps supplied drivers to assist the Marinebataljon in moving troops and equipment between Goebeng and the M.K.C. (military camp).
Contributions
The corps’ drivers enabled the Marinebataljon to overcome logistical delays caused by a shortage of motorised personnel, allowing the unit to resume its march towards Djombang.
Significance
The Vrijwillig automobielcorps illustrates the reliance of Dutch colonial forces on local manpower for transport and logistics, a factor that affected operations throughout the archipelago, including the Aceh region.
