The Trip to Ladoeng and Kroeng Raja — tocht naar Ladoeng en Kroeng Raja op 30 en 31 October 1896 — was a two-day Dutch reconnaissance of the Ladoeng and Kroeng Raja regions of Groot-Atjeh, undertaken on 30–31 October 1896, two days after the capture of Kota Ba Teuē on 28 October 1896. The trip formed part of the broader Dutch forward movement of late October 1896 — the extension of Dutch control from the temporary occupation of Indrapoeri into the Ladoeng and Kroeng Raja regions. The trip was followed, on 3 November 3, by the second Selimoen expedition — the last major Dutch operation of the second semester of 1896.

Significance

The Trip to Ladoeng and Kroeng Raja of 30–31 October 1896 is significant in the documentary record of ATJEH ‘96 — Tweede Deel as the immediate follow-up to the capture of Kota Ba Teuē of 28 October 1896. The trip — undertaken two days after the capture — extended the Dutch forward movement into the Ladoeng and Kroeng Raja regions, and prepared the way for the second Selimoen expedition of 3–6 November 1896. The trip was thus part of the rapid sequence of Dutch operations in late October and early November 1896 — the sequence which would be brought to a halt by the cholera epidemic of December 1896.
