The Siege and relief of Tjot Goeë was the investment of the Dutch post of Tjot Goeë in the IX Moekims of Groot-Atjeh from 29 March 1895 until 9 April 1895, the first serious breach of the security that the alliance with Teukoe Oemar had appeared to bring to the southern outposts.
The engagement of 29 March 1895
Hooijer recorded that the quiet of Tjot Goeë — where ladies and gentlemen had come out from Kota Radja by carriage to enjoy the view over the posts of the geconcentreerde linie — changed only on 29 March 1895, toen de drie compagnieën, uit de geconcentreerde linie ter bescherming van den post afgezonden tegen kwaad volk, dat zich in de IX Moekims verzamelde, krachtig onder vuur genomen werden: when the three companies sent out from the concentrated line to protect the post against ill-disposed people gathering in the IX Moekims were vigorously fired upon.
Investment and relief
From that date the benteng remained surrounded by the enemy until it was relieved on 9 April 1895.
Consequences
Four days after the relief the two more southerly posts, Lam Koenjit and Biloel, were lifted, and it was decided to keep a permanent fortification garrisoned at Tjot Goeë to prevent the enemy from erecting een tweede Kaloet there. The other two went up in flames as the Dutch troops hastened back over the muddy fields on which, for almost three years, they had endured all the misery of a temporary station with resignation.
