The punishment of Ladoeng and Kroeng Rajal was the punitive turn inflicted by Dutch troops, on 19 June 1879, upon the population of Ladoeng and Kroeng Rajal on the North Coast of Atjeh, known from of old for its unbridled robber spirit (teugellooze roofzucht). The punishment was carried out without any loss on the Dutch side, and belonged, as Verstege records after Kielstra’s history, to the establishing phase that followed the triumphant campaign against the XXII Moekims: ten days after the completion of the operations at Gleieng and two days before Van Lansberge’s cabinet letter of 21 March was answered by events in the field, the coast population was taught that the arm of the government reached everywhere (see Campaign against the XXII Moekims (1879)).
