The thiploeëh-tha (Atjehnese thiploeëh, “ten,” and tha, Malay satu, “one” — hence “one of the ten”) was the Atjehnese tithe levied on gardens (lampoih) outside the gampong boundaries, forming the third head of the adat glé.
Character and distribution
D. W. N. de Boer identified it with the “tienden van het gewas” — tithes of the crop — found elsewhere in the Archipelago as well, citing Bali among other places. It was thus not a peculiarly Atjehnese institution but the local form of a widespread tenth-part levy on garden produce.
Abolition
Like the other sovereign levies of the oeléëbalangs, the thiploeëh-tha was abolished by article 15 sub I of Staatsblad 1919 No. 822, the chiefs being compensated by a fixed civiele lijst.
