The Tasman was the vessel on board which members of the deputation travelling from Java to Koeta Radja for the presentation of the colour to the Korps Maréchaussée made the passage in 1930.
The beer on board
The ship is named in the 1930 jubilee number in an incidental but characteristic passage. During the interview with Colonel L. A. Snell, the colonel was telephoned by an old comrade who was to make the journey to Koeta Radja with him, and the interviewer heard him say: “Zorg er voor, dat er aan boord van de Tasman een voldoende voorraad ijskoud bier aanwezig is, want een goed Maréchaussée heeft een gezonden dorst!” — see to it that there is a sufficient supply of ice-cold beer on board the Tasman, for a good Maréchaussée has a healthy thirst.
The interviewer offered the exchange as “een trekje van de levensblijheid van den man, die zoo vaak den dood is tegemoet getreden” — a trait of the cheerfulness of the man who had so often gone to meet death.
