The year in which Nūruddīn ar-Rānīrī completed the *Ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm* — the Malay handbook of religious duties that he had begun in 1634 — and returned from Acheh to Ranir. The date of completion is established by Djajadiningrat in TBG 69, pp. 109–111, and corrects the earlier assumption of Voorhoeve that the Ṣirāṭ had been completed before Raniri’s arrival in Acheh. In the same year, Shaikh Yūsuf al-Makassar left Celebes for Mecca — a journey that would bring him, like Raniri, to the discipleship of Sayyid ʿUmar Bā Shaybān. The composition of the *Tibjān* and the *Ḥujjat aṣ-ṣiddīq* falls within the joint reigns of Iskandar Thani and Taj al-Ālam.
