The beginning of the first visit of Muhammad Djailani Hamid — the uncle of Nūruddīn ar-Rānīrī — to Acheh. The visit, which lasted until 1583, was the first link of Raniri’s family with the Achehnese court. The scholar wished to teach logic, rhetoric, dogmatics, and the doctrine of duties, but found little interest: there was a great influx only for teachers of mysticism. So he sailed on to Mecca, returning some years later provided with the venia docendi as a teacher of mystical theology, and then had great success.
