Vredespark (Peace park) was one of the two parks laid out at Koeta Radja in the years of the definitive peace, bearing with its counterpart, the Oorlogspark (War park), zeer eigenaardig respectievelijk (very characteristically) its name. In November 1913 Moens, comparing the city with the fortified place he had known in 1893–1894, recorded that the old walls — including the wall of the old kraton — had disappeared, that broad roads had been made, and that the two parks had been laid out; waarvan vooral het laatste werkelijk smaakvol is aangelegd — of which especially the last, the Vredespark, was really tastefully arranged, and was accordingly much visited, European nannies with perambulators walking there. A modern hotel stood near the Vredespark. The pair of parks, War and Peace, marked in the plan of the city the transition from the concentrated stronghold of the war years to the open capital of the pacified province.
