T. Pura (Tjoeka Pura) was a location on the East Coast of Sumatra, in the border area between the former Negara Sumatera Timur and the territory of Atjeh. On 22 May 1950, two Dutch plantation officials of the Société Financière des Caoutchoucs — B. de Jong and C. A. Zandbergen — were seriously wounded there by an Atjehse amokmaker.
Historical context
T. Pura was situated in a zone where the East Coast plantation economy intersected with the Atjehnese hinterland. The incident of May 1950 reflected the tensions that persisted in this border region during the early independence period.
