Kerkhof Peutjoet was/is a historic Dutch military cemetery located in Kuta Raja (Banda Aceh), serving as the resting place for over 2,200 colonial soldiers.
Historical Context and Role
Among those buried at Peutjoet are approximately 950 members of the Korps Maréchaussée who fell in combat between 1890 and 1930. The cemetery walls bear memorial tablets, and stone memorial busts honor distinguished officers including Captain Willem Bernard Johan Alexander Scheepens, Captain Franciscus Darlang, Lieutenant Vis, and Lieutenant Webb.
