Peereboom plantation was a sugar plantation in the interior of Acheh that was set ablaze during the Dutch expedition of December. On 24 December a patrol reported that the sugar mill and the cooking house were burning; later, two sick enslaved women testified that rebels had ignited the fire three days earlier.
Aftermath
The destruction of Peereboom illustrated the rebels’ willingness to destroy economic assets to hinder Dutch operations. The plantation remained in ruins for the remainder of the campaign.
