Payakumbuh (Dutch: Pajakombo) is a town in the Padang Highlands of Sumatra’s West Coast where, in November 1886, Governor Demmeni of Atjeh died aged fifty-five shortly after arriving on sick leave, worn out by incessant work and the Atjeh climate.
