Kroeëng Beuniët was the river whose strongly fortified and apparently impregnable gorge barred the way to Tangsé in 1898.
Van Heutsz’s answer was “the famous turning movement to the left through the impassable terrain around the gorge — through downpours, primeval forest and ravines… towards the unreachable unknown. A gamble, a specimen of daring and unshakeable self-confidence, which succeeded: Tangsé was reached and occupied.”
