Boeboek (historically also known as Pantei Rambing) was an Acehnese coastal settlement and village community (village settlement (negorij)) situated between Pedir and Gighen along the northeast coast of Sumatra in modern Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, Indonesia.
Role in the Second Expedition
At the outbreak of the Second Aceh Expedition in December 1873, the local chieftain of Boeboek marched to Kraton of Aceh at the head of 500 auxiliary warriors to assist Sultan Sultan Mahmud Syah of Aceh in defending the royal capital against General J. van Swieten.
However, following the Capture of the Aceh Kraton on 24 January 1874, as documented in Atjeh gedurende de tweede expeditie en later (1876), the chief of Boeboek informed Dutch authorities that he and his 500 warriors were withdrawing back to their home village, declaring that because the palace had fallen, further resistance was futile. This withdrawal was cited by Van Swieten in the General van Swieten War Telegrams.
