Aneuk Galung was/is a fortified Acehnese village and military earthwork stronghold located in the valley of Groot-Atjeh.

Historical Context and Role

On 29 June 1896, Aneuk Galung was the site of the first major full-force battle involving the Korps Maréchaussée. In the Battle of Aneuk Galung, 224 Marechaussee troops under Captain Jonkheer G. J. W. C. Graafland breached the fortified palisades and captured the entire complex in fifteen minutes, demonstrating the lethal effectiveness of aggressive light infantry tactics.
