W. K. van Gennep was a lieutenant ter zee of class le who led a landing division of 250 men, including 101 marines, during the First Boni Expedition 1859 on 12 February 1859 near Badjoa.
Operations
Van Gennep’s division executed a deceptive maneuver with warships, landing successfully and engaging Boni forces in a series of skirmishes.
