Toekoe Moeda Rajat was the head of the pasar (market master) of Gigiëng until his dismissal by Prince Toengkoe Bintara Kamangan on the ground of his good disposition towards the Dutch, one of the signs by which the prince’s secret transit to the war party was detected in July 1876 — the report, made by Toekoe Imam of Gigiëng, stating expressly that the well-disposed Moeda Rajat had been replaced by the hostile Toekoe Hasjim.
His dismissal was one of the small facts by which the Dutch, lacking establishments on that coast, kept their finger on the pulse of the Atjehnese coast states; it preceded by a month the breach of 19 August 1876 in which the harbour of Gigiëng was closed and the prince declared an open enemy.
