The foremost member of an old family of pandits at Tiro, and Teungku di Tiro par excellence until his death in 1886. He was the right-hand man of the energetic Cheh Saman, who succeeded him when his own son proved too young to take his place. He was a central figure in the scholarly and spiritual life of Tiro.
