Commander Stavorinus was a Dutch naval officer who commanded the bark “St Eustatius” during the December 19–25 expedition against rebel forces in the interior of Acheh. He was ordered to maintain a post at the plantation “Cornelia Jacoba” after the detachment of Captain‑lieutenant Smit had marched overland.

Duties

Stavorinus’s bark provided fire support for land forces, patrolled the Wironje creek, and helped secure communication lines between the riverine fleet and inland posts. His journal entries (as cited in the Journal of Haringman) note the lack of significant rebel activity at the time of his arrival.
