Ramzyng (spiritual leader) was a religious figure (referred to as “geistelijke herder”) who, according to the Journal of Haringman, abandoned the colonial settlement and was blamed for the rebels’ retreat from the plantation “Markey”. Haringman’s entry calls him “Do. Ramzyng”, indicating a possible clerical title.
Role
Ramzyng is portrayed as a “colony‑weakening” shepherd whose departure may have demoralised the colonial troops and emboldened the rebel forces.
