Radya Hadgè was a local chieftain (radja) allied with the Dutch‑friendly factions in the region of Riouw during the 1784 Dutch expedition. He was mortally wounded during the assault on the royal battery at Salangore on 18 June 1784.
Position and Influence
Radya Hadgè was regarded by the indigenous population as a figure of “onkwetsbare heiligheid” (invulnerable sanctity). He commanded a contingent of native troops and was responsible for firing upon the Dutch forces from the royal battery.
Death and Aftermath
During the Dutch attack, Radya Hadgè was struck by enemy fire while standing on the royal battery, leading to his death. His demise was followed by the killing of several allied princes and sons of the local ruler, weakening the resistance against the Dutch.
