Panglima Tiban Mohammad was the grand harbourmaster (Shahbandar) and chief diplomatic envoy of the Sultanate of Aceh under Sultan Alauddin Mahmud Syah IX.

Diplomatic Missions

In late 1872, Panglima Tiban was dispatched by Sultan Mahmud Syah IX to Riouw to negotiate a formal treaty with the Dutch Resident. Concurrently, he headed an Acehnese diplomatic delegation to Singapore. While in Singapore, Panglima Tiban initiated confidential discussions with American Consul Major Studer and Italian diplomatic representatives to explore protective alliances.

When Dutch Consul-General W. Read uncovered these covert negotiations in February 1873, Governor-General James Loudon dispatched Frederik Nieuwenhuijzen with an ultimatum, initiating the First Aceh Expedition.
