Mohamad Ali Alamsjah was a brother of Mohamad Djohan Alamsjah, the oeléebalang of Peusangan, and held the office of oeléebalang tjoet of Djeumpa, a sub-district within the landschap of Peusangan. Like his brother the oeléebalang and his brother the landbouwkundige Teukoe Boestaman, he had received a good education and spoke Dutch.
Significance
The presence of three educated, Dutch-speaking brothers in the ruling house of Peusangan — one as oeléebalang, one as landbouwkundige, one as oeléebalang tjoet — is, in Broersma’s view, the strongest single piece of evidence for the proposition that the post-pacification reforms could take root in Atjeh under good chiefs. The Alamsjah brothers are the type of the new ruling family.
