M. P. Meyer was a colonel of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army who authored a comprehensive account of Dutch military operations in Aceh from 26 December 1875 to 4 September 1876.

Meyer’s work, titled Atjeh van 26 Dee. 1875 tot 4 Sept. 1876, presents a day‑by‑day chronicle of engagements, troop movements, and logistical challenges faced by Dutch forces. He records that “the mariniers, under the command of lieutenant Verhey, played a crucial role in securing the coastal forts while the Indische Leger advanced inland.”
Strategic Assessment
Meyer evaluates the campaign as a turning point in the Aceh War, arguing that the combined use of naval firepower and marine infantry allowed the Dutch to capture several key strongholds in northern Aceh. His analysis of supply lines through Batavia and the use of steam‑powered vessels is frequently referenced in studies of colonial military logistics.
