M. A. Thieme was a Dutch captain of infantry in Atjeh in 1876, commanding the company of barisan (native auxiliary troops) of Soemenēp that took part in the operation against Lambaroe of 6–8 March 1876 and in the guarding, on 7 March, of the withdrawal of the wounded from the field to the hospital at Kota Radja.

His company of Soemenēp barisan was joined to the column of the 8th Infantry Battalion for the relief of the besieged south-east line: it marched with the main body to Longbatah Zuid on the evening of 6 March and formed part of Major Diepenheim’s attacking column at the storming of the enemy work at Lambaroe the next morning. When the fight was won, the wounded were, under the protection of Captain Thieme’s company — which had already been busy that morning — transported as soon as possible to the hospital at Kota Radja, where they were admitted before noon. His name is preserved, in this charge, by H. F. Meijer in Atjeh van 26 December 1875 tot 4 September 1876 (1883).
