Krol van der Hoek was a Dutch lieutenant of the engineers (genie) at Atjeh in 1885. By a Batavia telegram of 16 December 1885 — carried by the Indian mail after Perelaer’s speech — the Governor of Atjeh reported that Genie troops had repaired damage to the tramway between Lamara and Lampeneroet; two men were killed and four wounded, among them the engineer lieutenant Krol van der Hoek (see Guerilla raids inside the concentration line (1885)).
