A teacher from Medina living among the people of Meureudu, whose title combines “Ja” (grandfather) with the Arabic faqih (teacher of law). In the Hikayat Malem Dagang he advises the Sultan on all important matters, defends the people of Meureudu against royal anger, and is eventually induced to accompany the Malacca expedition, choosing lucky moments for military action and checking the Sultan’s tendency to inactivity.
