J. Langhout was a Dutch journalist who authored the jubilee publication Vijftig jaren economische staatkunde in Atjeh (1923) titled “fifty years of economic policy in Atjeh”, commissioned during Swart’s afterglow.
The jubilee book
Langhout’s work appeared in 1923 when Atjeh was to have its jubilee, fifty years after the first Dutch expedition of 1873. According to Dr. R. Broersma, Langhout had never seen land and people of Atjeh when he composed the overview from data placed before him. The true responsible was H. N. A. Swart, oud-governor 1908-1918, whose administration period was treated most extensively.
Broersma dismissed the work as not containing land and people essentially, and as unclean sketch of volkshuishouding.
