Commander Huygens was a Dutch naval commander who operated the bark “Zeven Provinciën” during the December 19–25 riverine campaign in the interior of Acheh. He received orders to patrol the Wironje creek and to explore plantations such as Prosperiteit and Cornelia Jacoba.

Actions

Huygens dispatched officer patrols to the riverbanks, reported the presence of “negro” rebels, and coordinated with Captain Van Oyen and Captain‑lieutenant Smit for joint operations. His reports noted that the plantation “Prosperiteit” had recently been abandoned by rebels.
