Guillaume was one of the two French travellers murdered in the Tenom river on 9 March 1880 by the people of the Tenom pirate prince, together with his companion Vallon. His and Vallon’s deaths are recorded by Verstege as an early symptom of the Tenom coast’s defiance which four years later fed the Nisero affair (see Murder of Vallon and Guillaume (9 March 1880)).
