G. E. Visser was a Dutch 2nd lieutenant of the Netherlands Indies Army who commanded the rear-guard of forty bayonets on the patrol of 25 September 1897 from Lho-Nga to the Goeah Teroes cave on the Glé Betoes.
On the descent from the cave, after the death of Lieutenant J. van Greuningen and four fusiliers, Visser’s rear-guard covered the retreat of the column while the tandoes carrying the killed and wounded were brought down in the middle. P. H. R. Beuming records that the descent went extremely slowly and that with the tandoes it was breakneck work, the swaying drawing many a cry from the wounded.
He is to be distinguished from the marechaussée lieutenant Vis who took part in the surprise of Anak Galoeng of 29 June 1896.
