Colonel M. F. Meyer commanded the Dutch expeditionary force that operated in Atjeh from 26 December 1875 to 4 September 1876. His campaign involved the capture of Mesigit, the occupation of Pakan Badak, and the arduous march through the Blang Kala pass (see page 137).
Campaign Overview
Meyer’s forces advanced from Djempit towards Kota Radja, establishing bivouacs at Djempit, Pakan Badak, Boekit Seboen, and other locations. He oversaw the construction of bentings and coordinated with General Pel and other subordinate officers.
Significance
Meyer’s expedition is a key episode of the Aceh War, demonstrating the Dutch shift to systematic territorial penetration and fortified base‑building in the highlands.
